Home description

Our cottage is a 5 minutes level stroll from the meandering Rio Gilao and the famous Roman Bridge which links this old-world part of town to the newly restored centre. Nestled behind one of Tavira’s many 16th century churches, the house is a renovated grain store which offers you simple, stress free accommodation for up to 5 people. The house is perfect for couples although it can provide cosy dwellings for small families and groups. Situated in the heart of Tavira, this beautiful Eastern Algarve town boasts a plethora of sights and attractions within easy reach, whatever the purpose of your visit, our little house can offer you a comfortable and traditional stay.

The Algarve region

The Algarve hs a warm climate all year round making it a suitable destination for golfers, families and couples whether it be for sport or a beach holiday.
Early history is uncertain but the Romans built the bridge in Tavira to carry the road connecting their settlements at Faro and Mertola. Only the foundations now remain since the present structure is Medieval. The Spanish border town of Ayamonte can be reached by ferry or car and is a 30min drive from Tavira over the new road bridge.


Tavira area

Tavira is east of the Algarve . There are 39 churches, boulevards to sit and have coffee, wine or dine at the street cafe's or restrauants. Situated on the River Gilao which splits the town in two Tavira offers charm, history relaxation and entertainment due to the fesivals which takes place in the towns amphitheatre during the summer months. A ferry from town (summer months) or Four aquas (1 km from town) takes you to the Ilha Tavira, the nearest beach with a choice of bars and restaurants.
Visitors with a car can make interesting trips to Santa Luzia, Cabanas, Manta Rota and Pria Verde, all beautiful sandy beaches along the coast. Inland the small town of Cachopo, Santa Caterina and Prego do Inferno are all worth a visit. The trains and buses regular leave Tavira for Faro and the West of the Algarve and Villa Real De San Antonio and the Spanish Border to the East
Golfers can choose from around 14 golf courses within a 40 km radius and with easy access to the A22 and EN125 all can be easily reached.

Fly to Faro - Tavira is 40 miniutes by car East and towards the Spanish Border. Good train and bus links and Taxi fare around 45Euros one way.

The lounge comprises of 2 sofas perfect for relaxation, one of which can sleep a further person. There is a TV, DVD player and speaker dock for those with iPods and iPhones.
Access from the lounge into the single and double bedrooms. The bathroom via the single bedroom has been recently refurbished and comprises of a walk in shower, low level wc and wash hand basin. Shelf unit and mirror.

Single Bedroom with single bed (access to bathroom), large wardrobe, drawers.
Bedroom 3 upstairs with twin beds (height restricted access), dressing unit and air-conditioning unit.
The fitted kitchen has all the amenities you should need including a breakfast bar area and access to the patio.
All rooms are tastefully decorated and sensitive to the traditional Portuguese style.
Air-conditioning which also provides heating option.

A spacious private rustic patio area with a dining table to seat 6. Two sun loungers to soak up the sunshine and a traditional outdoor shower to cool off. Barbecue.

Close to more than 4 Golf Courses, the nearest being Benamor which is 10 mins drive away (3km). There are x2 sets of golf clubs (ladies and gents) anyone wishing to play during their stay can use these free of charge. Request clubs at time of booking if required
