Home description

La Petite Truffe - recently restored and beautifully furnished cottage with pool adjacent to 18th century Perigiordian manor house
Fancy the idea of cycling to village for croissants in the morning (bike provided, with or without baby seat) and enjoy your breakfast on the terrace, under a tree, facing the swimming pool?
La Petite Truffe is the place for you.
Located 'juste a cote' to the village of Sorges, famous in France for black truffles, this beautifully restored cottage is part of a two gite complex with pool, situated in the grounds of a 18th century manor house.
Drive through the large iron gates into the courtyard, with its two enormous horse chestnut trees, and space to park 4 cars.

Perfect for holidays with or without the 'little ones' - La Petite Truffe, has a private garden, with south-west facing terrace, equipped with teak furniture, BBQ and a view of the pool (the pool is shared and is alarmed, so no need for you to be!). The gardens feature natural delights such as walnut and hazelnut trees, vines, as well as fig, apple and pear trees. Free for you to help yourselves when in season!
Recently restored, La Petite Truffe, has retained its original charm, such as exposed beams, wood burning stove, wooden floors, and mezzanine but offers a high standard of accommodation as well as modern amenities.

The accommodation consists of an open plan lounge and dining area (seats 6), with stone walls, open beams and wooden floors, with carpets (removable).
The window seat in the dining area looks out on the garden.
The fully equipped kitchen is adjacent, with French doors leading to the terrace outside. Also on the ground floor is the main bedroom, with wrought iron double bed and en-suite shower room.

The wooden spiral staircase leads upstairs to the mezzanine, with two twin beds, overlooking the lounge (stair gate available for children). The third bedroom is also upstairs with an antique oak double bed and delightful slanting roof and wooden beams. The shower room for these rooms is situated next to the lounge at the bottom of the stairs.

The Aquitaine/ Dordogne region

Your gite contains a file with all flyers available from tourist office in Perigueux.....here is a little for now....

Whilst the local area offers a huge range of alternatives ranging from letting you ‘crash out by the pool’ to walking, cycling, canoeing, tennis, horse riding (2 centres nearby), fishing, velo-rail and more…all within a 15km radius, the Dordogne offers some superb ancient towns and sites as well as some vivacious markets (list of daily markets in gite guide) for your holiday.

The historical centres of Perigueux (25mins), Sarlat, Domme and Limoges (famous for pottery) are all within hours drive. Other attractions include the picturesque town on Brantome (Venice of Perigord) with the oldest abbey and bell tower in France, built into the rocks, the magnificent chateaux of Hautefort, (film set of Cinderella with Drew Barrymore) and Jumilhac le Grande, as well as horse racing at Pompadour. Take a day trip to Bordeaux or Bergerac, and sample some wine, or simply make the most of the region.

The Dordogne also offers wonderful activity centres with a range of facilities from kayaking, canoeing, lake beaches, free climbing, windsurfing, restaurants, etc. The nearest one from La Petite Truffe - Centre Rouffiac, is only 35 mins, and well worth spending the day.

Being in France, wining and dining are paramount. Sorges is the capital of the truffle and Thiviers (nearby) the capital of foie gras. Area delicacies include : duck, truffles, foie gras, apples, walnuts (oil is great), and Limousin beef. Oysters, fresh crab and lobster, as well as other fabulous seafood, and fresh fish are also popular.

Following the success of the Da Vinci Code, the famous town of Relais le Chateau – is also within a comfortable driving distance, and of definite interest to those following the path of the Rose, Templar Knights, etc.

Whilst there are some resorts in the area that offer lake swimming, the nearest beaches are on the West Coast in Bordeaux. These could be arranged as a day trip with a picnic basket ordered from gite owners (selection available), and dinner in Bordeaux to finish the day. Duration of journey - 2hrs

Un grand merci pour l'accueil et la gentillesse. Ce fait un tres agreable sejour dans un endroit charmant. Bien amicalement a tous,
Bruno, Columbe, Emma(7) et Camille(4). 03.03.07

Hello Audrey & Sidney,
Just a brief note to say thank you for the time we were able to spend in your gite. We found the accommodation to be great. It gave us the opportunity to have a good look around in the close vicinity and also the not so close areas, clocking up a lot of kilometres. However, we enjoyed the area in general and of course, dropping down to the Dordogne valley etc.
Kind regards
David & Jane Gale, 20.03.07

This is the first gite holiday for us as before now it was always a trailor tent. I can not see myself being able to persuate the family to go back to the trailor tent! The hospitality of Audrey & Sydney, the comfort of the beds, the swimming pool, the BBQ, a coffee maker, and no queue for the showers/toilets/washing up..... I hold Mr & Mrs Murphy Brandmayer responsible for the dire consequences to my bank balance that the future now holds!! We are sure we will be back in the future.
Graham, Sheila & family (4girls! 9-16), 27.07.07

A luxurious gite in a wonderful setting.
We loved the layout, especially the garden and pool area. Very child friendly! Great location for day trips around the Dordogne area. We made good use of the infomation booklet and leaflets provided.
The toys and games kept the little one entertained and made this feel like a home from home (but with better weather!)
Jane Haynes, Claire Haynes, Anna, Darren and Isabel (4) Moore, 03.08.07

3 children (9 weeks/2yrs/4yrs), 4 adultes (one expecting) and a dog....and still space for friends to come and visit!
Absolutely perfect. Thank you for everything.

Baby Malo born in late 2007!! - congratulations from Audrey and Sydney

Hi guys - arrived home safe and sound last night after a bit of a delay. Thanks again for helping make our holiday so great - back to reality now unfortunately.
I totally forgot to write on your visitors book - will just be an excuse to visit again and write then!
photos soon.
Thanks again and keep in touch!
Lisa, Ian, Aine(4) and Cara(3) 09.09.07

Hi Audrey
Just wanted to thank you again for being great hosts, you couldint have been nicer. We enjoyed our stay and will recommend your place to those interested in visiting the area.
Thanks again and regards
Ed, Linda and Peter 14.09.07

They say the sign of a great holiday is not wanting to go home, and we really dont want to! First class accommodation, hospitality and hosts! Best thing was finding new friends. See you soon,
Caroline, Paul and Tom (3), 31.10.07

WOW!
Great gite, great kiddies area which can be supervised from terrace, great kids equipment and gite WAY bigger than photos imply.
Have booked already for next year.
Ronan, Emily, Roisin(4) & Eoin(2.5) 03.05.08

Dear Audrey,
I am now back to Oxford and I wanted to thank you for the lovely stay we had at La Petite Truffe. I am sorry I didn't have a chance to say goodbye to you in person but we had to leave rather early to make it to the airport in time for Erol's family return plane. We all enjoyed the house very much and thought it was really well decorated and comfortable.
I will definitely recommend it to friends and colleagues that are looking for a friendly and convenient accommodation in the Dordogne area.
All the best, Veronique 01.06.08

We would just like to thank both you, Sydney and of course Sophie for the most wonderful holiday. The gite was everything that we could have wished for and your hospitality really made our time with you exceptionally enjoyable. Daniel spent the whole day today telling his little friends all about the swimming pool and of course about Sophie and her quad!!!
Your little piece of France is beautiful and somehow I dont think that this will be the last time that you see us (dont know if that is good or bad!!!)
Anyway thanks again and we really hope to see you all soon
-Tina, Paul and Daniel (3) (31.08.08)

Dear Audrey & Sydney,
Thank you for a wonderful week! Cafe de la Place was fantastic - had a super last meal there. So sorry we could not accept your offer to stay longer, but would love to come back one day.....
Thank you again - with best wishes,
Catherine & Peter, 06.09.08
