Sutri was founded by the Etruscans over 2000 years ago and still has a number of archaelogical remains from this period and the Roman, Lombard and medieval eras.
Local places to visit are Mitreo
In February for Carnevale and 'Mardi Gras', Sutri holds 5 days of celebrations with dancing, music, fancy dress and a procession of floats with allegories and shows.
In June each year on the Sunday of Corpus Domini, Sutri is one of only a few towns in Italy to hold a Flower Festival in celebration. In the lead up to the festival, you can see local people sitting outside their doors gathering leaves and petals in preparation. Then suddenly overnight the cobbled streets are covered in hand painted designs. On the Sunday itself, from midday the whole community is out decorating the streets with mosaic designs and pictures of doves, the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ. At 6pm, the official procession starts led by the archbishop and the local band.
In July and August daily concerts in the nine Sutri's churches in the evening.
