| The Famagusta District region |
|
Founded in 300 BC on the old settlement of Arsinoe, Famagusta remained a small fishing village for a long period of time. Later, as a result of the gradual evacuation of Salamis, it developed into a small port.
Famagusta District is one of the six districts of Cyprus. Its main town is the island's most important port, Famagusta.
Cape Greco, also known as Cavo Greco, is a headland in the south-eastern part of the district. It is at the southern end of Famagusta Bay. It is frequently visited by many tourists for its natural beauty. It is a protected coastal nature park. From the high points on the cliff that rests at the cape one can view amazing sights out to sea. According to local legend it is also the home of the 'Ayia Napa sea monster'!

| Protaras area |
Protaras, the tranquil Mediterranean resort town on the Eastern coast of Cyprus, is known for its prime location on the magnificent Fig Tree Bay Beach. The blue pristine waters and fine golden sand of Fig Tree Bay is recognised as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, continually rewarded with the prestigious Blue Flag Award, given only to the best seaside resorts. The majority of Protaras’ visitors are from England, a convenient four-hour flight away.
On the back of the success of Ayia Napa (which is only a few km away), it has blossomed into a resort of hotels, hotel apartments, villas, restaurants, pubs and all sorts of facilities a modern holiday resort ought to have. Being quieter than Ayia Napa and having less of a club scene, it has a reputation of catering more for family and Cypriot tourism.
Cape Greco is a 10 minute drive from the centre of Protaras, and is considered one of the most beautiful places on the island. A picturesque Blue Flag beach, a mile east of Ayia Napa on the Protaras road, close to the dramatic, rugged coastline of Cavo Greco, a national forest park with excellent nature trails. Konnos is sheltered from the prevailing winds, despite its wide sweep. Admire the sunsets, and look out for the starfish in the amazingly clear water.
