| The Marche / Abruzzo region |
|
Abruzzo is known as the 'green region of Europe', with over a third of it's surface protected. In the 4 national parks, the uncontaminated landscape goes from excessive to majestic. At 2912m, Corno Grande, in the Gran Sasso range, is the highest of the Abruzzo mountains. There are 17 ski resorts in the region. The ski season continues until April and the slopes are said to be central Italy's finest. The close network of regional and state nature reserves ensure that the natural world of Abruzzo is well-protected and can be enjoyed by sport and nature lovers.
There are 133km of golden beaches, creeks and cliffs, running along a coast lined with pinewoods, dotted with towns and backed by green hills. It is the only stretch of European coastline to have 7 seaside resorts in the same province – Teramo – all awarded the blue flag, for clean bathing water. The wide sandy beaches, shallow water and amenities make it ideal for children. Within an hours drive from Casa Bianca, 'Onda Blu', central Italy's biggest waterpark, provides a full and entertaining day out for all the family.
All in all, Abruzzo has something for everyone: - nature, mountains, beach, gastronomy, art, architecture, local crafts, museums, folklore, sport and above all, DIVERSITY.
In addition to all this, Rome can be reached in about 2 1/2 hours by car. Here, you can experience a spectacular day out, soaking up the culture, history and art, buying designer clothes in the huge array of fantastic shops, or simply enjoying the atmosphere of one of Europe's most cosmopolitan and stylish cities.

| Pescara Castilenti area |
Whatever the season or weather, there is always something to do and see in this area, making it an ALL YEAR ROUND holiday destination. Casa Bianca, in the province of Teramo, sits between the 2 medieval villages of Castilenti and Elice. Local shops, bars, restaurants, a swimming pool and health farm are all within walking distance.
This is a wine region, famous for Montepulciano and Trebbiano wines. After a 5 minute drive, you will reach an award-winning cantina, where you can sample and buy wine made from our vines, as well as the vineyards covering the local area. In the many local restaurants, you can enjoy freshly prepared, local produce, at fantastic value for money.
Only 20-30 minutes drive away, larger towns are situated, such as Atri, Penne and Loreto Aprutino. All the towns and villages host festivals, where you have the opportunity to sample local wine and food specialities, listen to a diverse variety of music and enjoy spectacular firework displays. The area’s artistic and architectural heritage offers a wide section of precious works of art, castles and churches, spread right across the region.
Atri and Penne are surrounded by nature reserves, including a WWF eduacational centre. The area within and around Penne Lake is home to about 160 species of birds and many types of fish. Within an hour of Casa Bianca, the first of Abruzzo's National Parks can be reached, where Marsicano brown bears, Apennine wolves and chamois all reside. Ski-ing, cross-country ski-ing, canoeing, cycling and hiking can all be enjoyed here.
In the other direction, the long sandy beaches of Pineto and Pescara can be found, 30km from Casa Bianca. Pescara boasts many fine restaurants and shops, as well as the largest tourist harbour on the Adriatic. Daily boat trips depart from here. Windsurfing, fishing, diving and sailing are easily available. Pescara provides good nightlife, including many music festivals. The warm and friendly atmosphere makes it appealing to people of all ages. Pineto is known for the shady pinewoods which separate the beach from the town. It is a modern and fascinating beach area, ideal for those who love the calm of another era.

The accommodation was better than expected, the photos didn't do it justice! Everything in the apartment was very clean, brightly decorated and furnished, with lots of reading materials and local info, a well-equipped kitchen and clothes washing facilities. Excellent cuisine and wine was enjoyed in the local restaurants at a very reasonable cost. We would recommend this accommodation highly for anyone seeking the "Italian Experience!"
- Mr and Mrs McEvoy, Co.Clare, Ireland.
The accommodation is excellent - clean, tasteful and comfortable - the kitchen is superb! The location, with its views across hills towards both sea and mountains, is breathtaking and awe-inspiring.
- Caleb Larsen, Essex.
Thank you very much for another wonderful week here at Casa Bianca. As you know this is our third stay in less than twelve months and we are hoping to visit again in October. We always have such a wonderful time, the week always goes too quickly. Tracey, you have been so very helpful with looking for a holiday place for us to buy. Without your help and translating there is no way we could have done it. We are very grateful, very many thanks.
Abbott family, Kent
We have had a wonderful week in this beautiful setting. The accommodation is fantastic, well-equipped and comfortable – everything we needed. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking and it seems that it changes around every turn in the road. We particularly enjoyed our trip to the Gran Sasso and hope that our cameras do it some justice! Thank you so much for the free produce! We have eaten so many tomatoes and figs, the latter being out of this world. We would love to return, perhaps in another season, and do some walking. Many thanks for your hospitality, restaurant recommendations and directions,
- Tony and Jean Davey, Mike, Joanna, Lizzie and Mary Donnelly, Kent & London.
Everything was just perfect...including the fireflies. We shall certainly tell our friends.
- Mr and Mrs Allen, St.Ives, Cornwall.
