Lovely 4-bed stone farmhouse set in 12 hectares of hilltop meadows, Podere Bellavista has its own pool (6x12m), a large garden, bbq, fantastic views down valley towards Siena/Montalcino. This largely undiscovered area is a must for nature lovers, being rich in wildlife - rare birds, butterflies and wild flowers. Pamper yourself at the famous thermal Spa of Saturnia, or you may prefer cycling, walking, horse-riding (by arrangement with a neighbour) or take a cookery course in the farmhouse kitchen. Shiatsu is also available by arrangement. The food is, of course, delicious.

All the major cities are a day-trip away - Siena is closest (70km), also Florence, Rome, Orvieto. The beaches of stylish Monte Argentario are less than an hour away, and the ski resorts (or refreshing mountain walks) of Monte Amiata 30km. The area around renaissance Pitigliano, Sovana and Sorano is fascinating for its Etruscan sites. And also its very good wine.

The Tuscany region

The area south west of Monte Amiata is rich in wildlife and history. Among the archaeological sites are the Etruscan sites at Sovana, Sorano and Pitigliano, which also boasts remains of a 16th Century Jewish community. There are also many nature reserves in the area, including nesting sites for the Lanner falcon and the Short Toed Eagle. At night the air is filled with bird song and stars.

Almost all the local medieval towns and villages have festivals and concerts throughout the summer.

Maremma Roccalbegna, Grosseto area

The ancient town centre of Grosseto is well worth a visit, boasting a fine Duomo and great shopping facilities. There are also theatres and cinemas if your Italian is up to it.

Fly to Pisa or Rome. The house is in equidistant from both. Ryanair operate cheap flights to Pisa and Ciampino, all major car hire firms operate from both. Nearest train station is Grosseto.

Changeover day is normally Saturday. Arrival times between 4pm and 7pm, departure times 10am. Weekly cleaning/linen change included. Bath towels provided but please bring your own beach towels.

One third deposit secures booking, balance payable 8 weeks before start of holiday. 600 Euro security deposit payable on arrival.
