The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

The region has mild Mediterranean winters with almost no humidity and beautiful hot summers. For the beach lovers, 20km from the resort is Patara Beach,a 14km long unspoit beach, famous for its nesting turtles. 7km away you will find Kaputus beach,a small sandy cove and beach nestled at the foot of a striking mountain gorge. Saklikent Gorge situated 30km away is an 18km long gorge approached along a wooden boardwalk above the river. Visit Myra the Roman theatre and the Rock Tombs. From Kalkan or Kas you can take a boat tour of the Sunken City of Kevkova. Along the shore of the island are Byzantine foundations and ruins, partly submerged in the sea. Nearby, a 20 minutes drive from Kalkan is Islamer, a small village set in the Taurus Mountains giving you an insight into the rural life of Turkey.

Kalkan is a delightful fishing town, rising gently from the bay, retaining a Turkish flavour whilst offering all requirements for the modern world. Set along narrow winding streets leading to the picturesque harbour along which are many tempting restaurants offering both Turkish and International Cuisine. There is a market held in Kalkan on a Thursday.

A wonderful place to stay. My lasting memory will be my husband saying on our first morning here "Get up and look at this view, it is wonderful". We've really enjoyed our stay here. Having visited many places and eaten excellent food we feel refreshed & rested, ready to return to the U.K. The people are friendly & welcoming and the scenery is stunning. K & A (Kettering)

We have had a lovely two weeks here & visited some wonderful places - Sunken City, Tlos, Saklikent gorge. The people in Kalkan are so welcoming & friendly and are wonderful with the children. We particularly enjoyed the top pool here as it was never busy. Great first thing in the morning. We did a superb boat trip on the Hazal boat (see their poster outside the Ilban (opposite the PTT). The food on the boat is exceptional and they really do look after you and it wasn’t expensive. Did other trips with Abi Tours and Club Lycia – both very good. My son recommends the Phantom Wing as the best water sport followed by the Ringos. Anyway, I’m sure whoever stays next will find their own particular favourites – there is so much to do, and so many lovely places to eat but enjoy it, we certainly have. R. K & A (St Albans)
