The Costa Brava/catalonia region

The nearby Pyrenees mountains and Garoxa volcanic region are brilliant for walking, with many medieval villages to discover.
There are numerous coastal resorts - the nearest 20 min. away - having sandy coves and rocky headlands offering good swimming, snorkeling, diving etc.
Barcelona with all its spectacular offerings is only 50 min away or not to be missed is Salvador Dali's museum at Figures, his country mansion at Pubol or his seaside home next bohemian Cadaques.
Nearby is EL Bulli, one of the world best restaurants but alas if you can't get a table there, Girona has many excellent offers to blow your culinary mind but not break the bank.

Girona has a beautiful old town ( only 15 minutes walk ) with an imposing cathedral. If you follow the old city walls walk you will be rewarded by spectacular views. Girona has fantastic shops and hundreds of reasonably priced restaurants.
