Home description

The Byre is the first of the cottages that was bought. When purchased in 1993, the building was a complete ruin, with only a few walls remaining about one foot high. The cottage took a little over a year to re-build.

The restoration was done after much research into what the original building looked like, both inside and out. The cottage was awarded a plaque from the Turkish Ministry Of Tourism & Culture for “Sympathetic Restoration Of Turkish Heritage” of which the owners Sandy & Jon Carter are justifiably proud.

The cottage is situated at the highest point at the western end of the Kaya valley, with stunning views in all directions.

Further details indoors: The interior of the cottage consists of a hallway cut into the rock leading onto the kitchen on one side and the master double bedroom, with en suite bathroom, on the other. Leading off the fully fitted kitchen is a very large sitting room with a traditional log burning stove, for use in the winter months. The sitting room has a balcony area with two single beds. This type of house design was very common in the area in the 19th. century. The kitchen looks out onto a walled patio garden. Over the years the flower beds have become well established and shade is provided by some beautiful trees and a covered pergola. Total privacy is assured as the private plunge pool and Ottoman kosk (a traditional wooden seating area, pronounced kushed)are accessed by steps and a gate leading up through the garden. A washing machine mentioned is located at one of our other cottages but is available for all our guests to use. The stereo system is not a CD player. Because many of our guests bring either MP3 players or iPods, we have available on request a docking station with speakers.

The plunge pool and kosk (wooden Ottoman seating area) are exclusivley for the use of customers staying at The Byre.

Conditions

We request a 50% non refundable deposit to secure and confirm bookings. We ask our clients for the balance to be paid please, one month prior to arrival. You can pay us through the UK banking system or by credit card through PayPal (5% surcharge).

We can arrange airport transfers and/or car hire for our guests.

The Byre has a traditional balcony above the sitting room. There are two single beds located on the balcony, suitable for teenagers. October - June we charge Gbp. 35.00 per bed used per week and in the three high season months, Gbp. 50.00 per bed per week. As there is only one ensuite bathromm in the cottage, the single beds would only be suitable for use by family members.
