Since Elounda is situated at the bottom of the Gulf of Mirabello it offers a unique seaside with sandy and rocky beaches and nature full of almond, carube and olive trees. From Elounda you can also go on a boat excursion to the beautiful island of Spinalonga with the impressive Venetian fort. For those who like walking, there are many possibilities and you will enjoy the walk along the seaside from Elounda to Placa of ca. 5km. Archaeological remains can be found at the Minoan city of Gournia (ca. 30km) the only excavated Minoan city or the third Minoan Palace of Malia (ca. 35km). There are also orthodox monasteries worth visiting for example in Areti, Kritsa and Toplou. The Iraklion International Airport is located at ca. 75km.
