Home description

This house has been recently renovated to provide comfortable self catering holiday accomodation for 6 people. It is in the superb countryside of Central Portugal in the foothills of the Serra de Estrela and on the Rio Alva.

The surrounding countryside is great for exploring with lots of river beaches along the Rio Alva the nearest only 500ms away and with some that hire out canoes and pedaloes. The river winds through the valley with little villages dotted around the hillsides and there are spectacular views around every corner.

The Costa De Prata region

Central Portugal is still a relatively undiscovered part of Portugal and is therefore best for the independant traveller who wishes to explore somewhere new and still part of the `Real Portugal`. There are winding rivers where you can fish or swim in the crystal clear waters, lakes for picnicing and swimming and in some places you can hire canoes. The mountains provide a spectacular backdrop to the beautiful views that you find around every corner.


Coimbra Arganil area

Barril de Alva is a small village on the Rio Alva. There are several cafes, a restaurant, minimarket and river beach. 3kms away is Coja a small ancient market town with a Roman bridge connecting the 2 sides where you will find everything you need including banks, shops and restaurants.

Conimbriga is where the best preseved Roman remains are and is approx. 1 hrs drive. In the other direction is the Serra de Estrela, the highest mountain range in Portugal which provides skiing in the winter and is approx. 1 hrs drive.

Golf in Viseu is on a hotel grounds but open to the public.

Horse riding can be found in Gois.

Coimbra ia an ancient University City, perhaps the oldest in Europe. It was the capital of Portugal for a short time and is worth a visit to wander the narrow cobbled streets or stroll along the banks of the Rio Mondego.

Cheap flights are available with Easyjet and Ryanair to both Lisbon airport 2 hrs drive and Porto airport 1 hr drive. Car hire is recommended and is available from major car hire firms at the airport. There are good motorways most of the way and A class roads after this.

The living room is in the renovated wine cellar where the huge ceiling beams have been kept. It has comfortable seating for 6 people including a sofa bed, TV and Video, DVD player, books and games. There is a patio door that leads out to the stone patio and garden terrace.

The kitchen area has a cooker, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, iron and ironing board and all pots and pans nescessary for your self catering needs. There is a dining area with table and chairs for 6 people and a door onto a breakfast terrace where you can take your breakfast whilst looking at the beautiful views over the surrounding countryside.

There are 2 bedrooms, one has a double bed and the other 2 single beds. The bathroom has a shower and there is also a washing machine here. There is a private garden to the front of the house and a covered area with BBQ.

The garden is being designed and developed. There is a natural stone patio with garden furniture and a covered area providing shade on very hot days with a BBQ.

The property is for rent from Saturday to Saturday but may be available for other days and durations if bookings permit.



Conditions

A 20% deposit is payable on confirmation of booking with the remaining balance payable 1 month before arrival.
