Home description

Our house is 200 years old and once belonged to the Chateau de Portes above. There are magnificient views over the far side of the valley. The whole house would be yours - it's definitely not split up into several gites!
Two terraces either side of the house (one covered), both with tables and chairs. Stay at home and enjoy the countryside, sunloungers, etc. or explore the beautiful region. There is certainly no shortage of things to do!

The Languedoc Roussillon region

The Gard region has the best of all worlds enjoying a Mediterranean climate with sunshine & clear blue skies for most of the year. The summers are hot and dry and extend well into autumn. Winter can be cold but still with glorious blue skies. Spring and autumn are lovely times here. The beaches of the Mediterranean are less than 2 hrs away. Markets include Ales, St Ambroix (superb) & Uzes, with all local specialities: cheese, olive oil, fresh herbs, honey & vegetables. Less than an hour is the famous Pont du Gard Roman aquaduct and well worth a visit and swim in the river. Of course you have to visit the Chateau de Portes just above the property.


Ales area

Shopping at Chamborigaud is 10 mins away and the nearest large supermarket is in La Grand'Combe, also 10 mins. An excellent restaurant is beside the Chateau de Portes (2 mins away) and others can be found in Chamborigaud and Ales. Very local activities include: mine museums, river swimming, horse & donkey trekking, velodrome, golf, tennis, caves, exploring, walking, cycling, fishing, gliding, canoeing, bamboo gardens, steam train. Cross-country skiing within an hour's drive.

The mas is situated in the Cevennes National Park, 15 minutes from Ales.
Fly to Nimes with Ryanair from Liverpool, Luton & East Midlands. Nimes airport 1 hour away.
Fly to Montpellier with Easyjet & Ryanair. Montpellier airport 1.5 hrs away.
Fly to Avignon from Edinburgh. Avignon airport 1.5 hrs away.
If you're driving, aim for Ales and then take the Genolhac road. Portes is situated between La Grand'Combe & Chamborigaud.

All linen and house towels provided. All heating & logs included.
Security deposit of £100 refunded with 14 days of your departure less any possible breakages and/or telephone calls. £40 final cleaning charge.
