| Home description |
This is a charming lovingly restored character property, unique in style to this beautiful region for rent as a holiday home. The property is a spacious airy villa and adjoing trullo with stone and marble floors throughout. Large and comfortable rooms provide ample space for a family to take shelter from the heat of the midday sun. We have paid attention to detail by adding decorative and personal touches to make this feel like a home rather than a rental property. The property has been furnished throughout to a very high standard and everything is kept new and spotlessly clean. Double rooms have superking size beds and all rooms have quality mattresses to ensure your comfort. The property sleeps 11 people, in 6 bedrooms. x2 cots are available. (For smaller parties we can offer at a reduced rate just one section of the property i.e. either the villa (sleeps 7or trullo sleeps 4)
The property benefits from a fabulously large private patio with shaded alfresco dining overlooking the pool and gardens not forgetting the breathtaking views across to Martina Franca. A fabulous 10x5m pool is a feature of the property that is set in an enclosed walled/gated and landscaped area. The pool has been enclosed sympathetically to retain the character and views, but does provide a greater degree of security and safety for families with young children, with its stone walls and pretty iron fencing with lockable gate. The grounds and pool are maintained to an extremely high standard. There is a poolside pergola offering permanent shade.
The villa is lovingly cared for by our excellent property management team of whom we are very proud. Our guests always comment positively about our friendly and responsive team. Our English Property Managers will meet you and ensure that you are supported with any questions in relation to the property during your stay. Our local cleaning ladies who pride themselves on their very high standards of cleaning and lastly our gardener/pool man who regularly attends the pool/gardens throughout your stay.
The accommodation has been designed cleverly, allowing for some independence between the 2 sections providing additional kitchen, living accommodation and dining areas in each part. This makes it ideal for families who want to spread out. This provides for increased facilities compared to renting just one large house - 2 fridges, freezers, TVs, DVDs etc enabling greater flexibility.

| The Puglia / Molise region |
|
Puglia is the home of the magical 'Trulli' and is acknowledged to be one of the few remaining 'undiscovered' parts of Italy. The trullis are unique to this region of Italy and fall under the protection of UNESCO. These historic character buildings are fascinating and provide a wonderful sanctuary from the summer heat with their thick stone walls and cooling stone floors. Alberobello the nearest town is only 8 minutes away and is a heritage centre featuring hundreds of trulli all clustered together.
Exploring the narrow picturesque lanes along which they are all situated is a nice relaxing way to pass away the time. The stone walled country lanes leading out of town are dotted with these century old buildings, all of which nestle amongst olive trees and vineyards. Our trulli is situated amongst 3 acres of olive, almond and cherry grove and has been renovated to a very high standard with the focus on retaining all the original features, providing you with a beautiful, unique and memorable character holiday home. Great cities to visit - all very different in style and architecture. Most noteworthy, Martina Franca, Locorotondo and Noci locally and further afield Lecce - the venice of the South is definately worth visiting.

| Alberobello area |
The villa is extremely well situated for exploring the southern half of Puglia. It is situated in a rural position, that said, it is only a 10 minute drive to the nearest town of Alberobello. The town of Alberobello is famous for its quirky architecture, which is made up of hundreds of trulli buildings; it is very picturesque.
In common with many towns in this region there is a large paved central area in the creamy smooth light stone where families gather in the long warm evenings buying gelati (ice creams) and promenading. It is striking that the atmosphere is so family orientated with toddlers and children running around late in the evening and many local old folks meeting and chatting. There is no graffiti, drunkenness or gangs of youths and it feels very safe unlike many UK town centres in the evening, which for most are a no-go area.
After a leisurely evening meal you can wander around the bustling town centre, looking at the open-air art sales sampling the wide range of ice creams and enjoy the warm evenings. The market in Alberobello is a favourite place to visit, held on a Thursday from 0830 to 1300. It is a really pleasing mix with something for everyone.
Nearby in the opposite direction lie the ancient walled cities of Martina Franca and Locorotondo. With baroque style architecture, stunning cathedrals, specialist shops and a plethora of cafes, bars and restaurants there is plenty to keep everyone entertained. In Martina Franca every third Sunday in the month from 0830 – 1230 there is an antiques market which is well worth a visit. Spread across several blocks of the town, it is a flea market where furniture, bric a brac and art are mixed with jewellery, new and old.
25 minutes drive away through some spectacular scenery is the Adriatic coastline and beaches. The Ionian coastline is an easy drive in the opposite direction taking around 50 minutes. More formal attractions nearby include the spectacular Castellana Caves, Zoo Safari near Fasano (a safari park and fun fair) and not forgetting the wine Cantina at Locorotondo, where you can sample and purchase locally produced wine. There are facilities in Alberobello for bike hire and there is also available an excellent golf course, horse riding and tennis all within easy distance.
The property is also situated on the doorstep of the Val D'Itria region, a protected rural area offering peaceful rolling countryside that is ideal for walking or cycling. We can recommend an excellent bike hire company, you can prebook before you arrive and they will deliver qualoty bikes to the door. (www.pugliainbici.com)
One of the delights of the region is the many cultural and religious festivals that are held throughout the year. These occur in most of the major towns and cities, usually throughout the spring and summer months. They are characterised by fabulous street illuminations and live open-air entertainment. Here you will find anything from formal classical, jazz or pop concerts in the local piazza to ad hoc street performances by roaming bands that appear to welcome any excuse to strike up a tune.

A beautiful setting, with a lovely pool (gated, which gave us peace of mind with four young children in our party), plenty of outdoor space and very well-equipped. The house was spotless and everything had been set up as we had requested for our arrival; we really appreciated Jenny's attention to detail and catering for our many and varied requests. This is a wonderful location, perfect for enjoying the beautiful countryside, visiting charming local towns and close enough to the turquoise water and golden sand of the Adriatic to enjoy the seaside as well. We can't wait to return! RG July 2010
"We stayed longer than expected in Villa sulla Colina (flight cancelled due to ash cloud). Although the weather circumstances (mid April) were quite variable we came back with a warm feeling about the house and its owners. The villa and trullo have lots of charm and provide as well privacy as well equipped common facilities to accommodate 2 families.
The specific circumstances make that we will have a special remembrance to this place. If the opportunity arises we surely will book the house again and we will not hesitate to recommend it to our friends and acquaintances"
Fam. Berlanger -Belgium
The property was stunning - really and absolutely. It was exceptionally comfortable - the mattresses especially - which is unusual for rental properties in our experience.
It was very well furnished - very much a home from home. We loved the personal touches with the CDs provided and the First Aid kit. The pool area felt fabulously luxurious and its surroundings were exceptionally clean (with the added bonus of fantastically unspoilt views). JN 2010
